EUROPEAN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE’S REPORT EAGM 2005- JEAN-LUC MICHON - It has been a fantastic year for the region with an increase of sailors in the Laser Class at the European Championships. The main point is the Laser Radial , which became Olympic for women in November 2004 but also attraced more sailors than ever outside the women’s division. This year, there is a big increase in Radial Masters sailing at the Worlds and at the Masters Europeans. The peak in the European Championships was at the Radial Europeans in Croatia with more than 370 entries. That means we need to take some decisions about the future of the Laser Radial. Those decisions are really important for our class and thats why the Executive Committee has decided in August to let the EAGM make the final decision. With almost 200 entries at the 4.7 Europeans and 260 the Standard Europeans (including youth), the Europeans Masters with 120, the participation at the Europeans Championships this year has been really high. For the first time we had at the 4.7 Europeans and at the Radial Europeans, a fleet of female in the youth division. We will have to put a limit at European championshipds to avoid the problems we had for the Radial in Croatia. The Europa Cup has also been receiving good attendance, a new format can be proposed with finals at the Europa Cup in Croatia in December. The Executive Committee also ask the EAGM to take a decision on that issue. On management issues, this year has been really difficult with the loss of Judith last year, Fran left the office early this year. It was not easy for the new staff to be as efficient as in the past. We still managed everything but it has been decided with the Executive Secretary that all notices of race should be on the ILCA website by the 1 st of January this year. The International is going to hire an office manager and that should solve all the difficulties faced this year. I will like to ask the EAGM to stop doing the European news letter the way it is done now but circulated only by email because it has always arrived too late for several reasons. It should be also on the website by the 1st of January. |
